Triumph moves Kofstad up to Olympics

It was like to killing two birds with one stone. Such was the dream like story of Espen Kofstad. 29 year old Norwegian, who entered the final round in 12th place. He started about an hour and a half before the last flight. Yet at the end he rejoiced in victory. He played the last round with an unprecedented 64. Then he waited. The biggest rival remained a Frenchman Langasque. He stayed at -17 to tie Kofstad and force the first shootout in the history of the tournament. On the second hole the final they were neck and neck. They both played to almost the same distance. Langasque putted first and just missed, Kofstad ceased on the opportunity and sunk it for the win.

“I am extremely happy that I got into the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. I am honored that I can represent there. Maybe I will get a medal,” said winning Kofstad.

Kofstad waited for his third victory on the Challenge Tour for four years. He reached the European Tour for one season, but he was stopped due to injuries.

“Winning means a lot to me. The last two years I trained hard, stayed patient and I had really great people around me. It’s great, what I’ve done,” added Kofstad.

Not only was the Slovakia Challenge a success for Kofstad, but it meant moving up to Rio. The New Zealander Ryan Fox is celebrating as well, and new course record created Englishman Garrick Porteous. He played -11 (9 birdies and one eagle).

Jan Cafourek finished tied for 50th place. He played today’s round at 72 and overall he remained at 4 under.

“Today I had a half-hearted start. Then I recovered and started to hit shots. I spent all day struggling on the greens, while the chances were there,” summed Sunday Cafourek, who made his second cut in a row.

“I believe that it is an impulse that I’m doing well and I’m moving somewhere. My game is starting to hold together,” concluded the interview for web GolfExtra.cz Cafourek.

The fourth annual D + D REAL Slovakia Challenge will be held again in early July. The real news is the extension of the contract with the Challenge Tour for another five years. The event will be played continuously in Penati Golf Resort.
